He was so nervous that his blood pressure was running high. They decided to go ahead and start the infusion and just keep an eye on his blood pressure. They started the transplant around 1:15. As soon as it started Landen started breaking out in hives on his face. They slowed the infusion down and gave him some medicine. His blood pressure started running higher so they treated it with medicine. Landen started getting really drowsy. With the outbreak of hives and the high blood pressure they asked the family to step out. At this point I was really scared and worried. I was praying the whole time and just watching. It felt like an eternity but it was only a few minutes and things started to calm down. The hives disappeared. It took a while for the blood pressure to start coming down but it eventually did a good while after the transplant was done. The transplant was done around 1:45, so it took about 30 minutes. The BMT team which included five people stayed during the transplant and then the doctor and the nurse stayed for an hour and a half after it was done to monitor him. After the transplant got started good he rested the whole time and for the rest of the afternoon.
We are so thankful everything went well and as expected! We're really glad it's over too!! Landen perked up a little bit but never was 100% the rest of the day. He got a little nauseous at times but he didn't get sick again. He had the dressing on his Hickman line changed again today and thankfully it went really well!
This is a very special day for Landen! It's his second birthday and a day we can celebrate every year now! We are so thankful for the donor and them being willing to give Landen a second chance at life. We are so grateful for the medical team and the knowledge they've been given to do the transplant. Most importantly we thank God for giving Landen to us and for bringing the ultimate healing! Without God none of this would be possible, so we give Him all glory, praise, and honor!!
