Transplant - Day Twenty-seven (+10)

We have reached a turning point! Landen had his first ANC level appear yesterday and today it was above 500! This is the first of many steps to go home! His ANC level has to be above 500 for three consecutive days to say that he has engrafted. They said to expect it to rise and fall at first. It takes a few days to level out. We were so excited and thankful to hear this!! Landen's WBC rose from 0.4 to 1.0 today. He did not need any transfusions today. Unfortunately, Landen did not feel good for most of the day. He slept all morning and woke up around 1:00. Although, he didn't get sick all day yesterday, which was the first day in a long time, he did get sick today. It is truly a roller coaster ride! Landen was able to stop a couple of medicines today and the team also adjusted some medicines today. We'll see how he does but Landen will have to be off some medicines and have the schedule of other medicine's figured out before he can go home. It will take several days for this to happen. Landen had a high Cyclosporine level over the weekend. This is his anti-rejection medicine and the levels determine how well it is working. There are several reasons for a high level but they are monitoring his dosage and schedule. This will be another important step to going home. Today is the first time the word "home" has been mentioned and it sounded soooo good!! While we can't wait to go home we aren't anxious yet. So, we won't get our hopes us anytime soon but we are nearing the end of this part of the process!! We briefly discussed the plan for when we are released with the doctors today. We live a little farther than their typical allowance for going straight home and with traffic it would just take us too long to get back to the hospital. They said to expect to be hospitalized after we are released. When he gets a fever we will need to be able to get to the hospital and get an antibiotic started within an hour. While we have been expecting to go straight home we realized today that that may not happen. It is disappointing but we will wait and see what they decide and we will trust their judgment. Ultimately we want what is best for Landen and we know they do too.

Landen had a couple of visitors today and Papa and Nani brought Brayden and Hannah Grace back tonight. We are so happy they are back and we have missed them so bad!! Thankfully, they have handled things extremely well. It has been amazing and it's an answer to prayer!

Being silly with Elisha!

Visiting with Pastor Scott

Landen and Lisa are really close!

We just met Beth but she is really sweet!

We had to catch up on some pictures with night nurses...Elisia is so nice!

He asked for a pen and paper and said he had some things on his mind he wanted to write down. (I hope to share more about this later!)
