Members of the Garner’s Chick-fil-A community rallied around one of their own last week when store officials hosted a fundraiser to benefit the Potentials Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting families and funding research for Primordial Dwarfism (PD).
Luke Johnson is a team member at the Garner Chick-fil-A. Johnson serves as the guest experience director at the Chick-fil-A at the Garner Town Square. His son, Landen, 3, has primordial dwarfism (PD), a form of dwarfism that results in a smaller body size in all stages of life beginning from before birth. However, the Johnson family does not have to face this struggle alone. The team at Garner Towne Square Chick-fil-A reached out to Johnson and held a fundraiser on March 21 to benefit the Potentials Foundation.
According to Garner’s Chick-fil-A Marketing Director Rachel Ward, the business decided to band together to support Johnson because teams members do not just work together, they consider each other family.
“The team members at Chick-fil-A are just like family to Luke,” Ward said. “As a team we understand the support the foundation provides to families touched by PD.”
Although the chilly temperatures put a slight damper on the weather, Chick-fil-A officials were pleased with the turn-out. Ward said they were able to raise approximately $2500 for the foundation.
Residents who were not able to attend the fundraiser can still donate. Ward said customers can contact herself or Johnson at 919-662-7200 to add to their efforts or donations can be made online at www.potentialsfoundation.org/.
Ward said she would encourage residents to support the Potentials Foundation.
“PD is very rare and many people will never know or understand how it affects a family. By supporting these types of foundations it raises awareness and educates many people. This is very valuable to those families affected by this diagnosis.”
While the Johnson cause has been extremely important to the Garner Chick-fil-A team, it is not the only fundraiser they are hosting to raise money for a good cause.
For the entire month of April restaurant employees are selling cupcake icons for $1 to help raise money for Relay For Life that will be held at Lake Benson Park on April 26-27.
