Vacation Day 6: Thursday, July 4, 2013

We got to rest some this morning and then met up at Arlington National Cemetery. We took the tour bus and our first stop was the Kennedy's Graves.

John F. Kennedy

Our next stop was the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and we witnessed the changing of the guards.

It was really special to be here on Independence day. I'm so grateful for the freedom me and my family have in America and for the men and women who have sacrificed their life and for the ones who are still serving!

For lunch we went to the food court at the Pentagon Mall. After lunch the Johnson's had to head back home due to a funeral. We were sad to see them go but so glad they got to be with us! We walked around the mall for a little while and then we rode the Metro to the National Air and Space Museum. We didn't have a lot of time there but we got to see what we wanted and Luke and Brayden got to ride the flight simulator so we enjoyed it!

Really nice mall! :-)

We were debating whether or not to watch the fireworks due to the crowd but we all agreed that it was really neat to be able to experience the 4th of July in Washington D.C. and we're not sure if we'll ever have the opportunity to again so we decided to find a spot at the National Mall and enjoy it!! We are SO glad we stayed. The fireworks were the best we've ever seen and it was an amazing experience!! We even mentioned it would be nice to make a trip back one day just to celebrate July 4th in D.C.!!  :-) Getting on the metro and back to our hotels wasn't as bad as we thought it would be thankfully! It was crowded though but totally worth it!!
