Family Update

Landen has recovered really well from surgery. His scars have taken a long time to heal it feels like but they are finally looking better! Monday will make 5 weeks since surgery and we have an appointment for a follow-up with the surgeon at Duke on Wednesday. Landen also had an appointment with the immunologist at Duke this past Monday. It was a very routine visit. Since he has completed the series of vaccines he had to get they repeated a blood test to see if his body can now make the antibody for the bacteria that causes pneumonia, bronchitis and other similar illnesses. Since they had to draw blood they went ahead and ordered a CBC as well. We haven't heard any results yet.

A few weeks ago Landen had a speech evaluation to determine if  he needed speech therapy. The evaluation was recommended by his doctor in Delaware. It was determined that he did need therapy. We weren't really surprised although we don't think his speech is terrible either. Right now we are going twice a week to Wake Med and it's going really well! The therapist has said that his speech is not as bad as she originally thought! We understand about 90% of what he says, Brayden understands about 95% of what he says and family usually understands him really well. However, when we're out and about and Landen is talking to everyone as he usually does we usually have to tell the person what he said. So, we definitely see the need for therapy and it is very common among other PD's. When he says single words he can pronounce most words very well for his age but when he says more than one word he is shortening the sounds and not saying them correctly.  So, that is what he is working on and as you can imagine this had made life a little busier!

 Homeschool is going much better. We had a hard time getting back going but we have now completed six weeks and Brayden is doing really well! He is learning so much and it is a joy to be able to watch him learn! He just recently lost his 4th tooth total...all on the bottom. He lost his first two teeth in December and lost two last week. He pulled the last one completely on his own! He was so excited!! :-)

Our church has just started Pee Wee Patch and Patch the Pirate and the boys are loving it!! They enjoy attending on Wednesday nights, the quiet time throughout the week as well as learning their verses and the songs on their CD. We are so thankful for our church that continues to invest in our children and the many workers who make it possible!

Luke is doing really well. We are so thankful and praise the Lord his UC has been under control for the longest period since diagnosis. He has had a few opportunities to preach recently. This past Sunday he had the honor of preaching the Homecoming service at Unity FWB Church in Smithfield where we got our start! ;-) It was really nice to be able to see everyone and visit with them. The store is finally getting adjusted to the remodel...slowly but surely! Believe it or not, they are still having things fixed, replaced or added. Things are finally starting to return to a new normal and things aren't quite as crazy as before! :-)
