Transplant - Day Two

Our first night in the hospital went really well. We're so thankful we all were able to get a good night of rest. The morning was pretty busy with Landen starting his treatment. He had to take some pre-meds and then he got his first dose of Campath. The Campath has to be given with a shot because it is tolerated much better that way than when it is given through an IV. Although we used numbing cream he was not happy about getting a shot. That was not fun but it is over for today! He wasn't his normal self this morning but it's probably because of the medicines. Thankfully,  he says his chest is feeling better where his Hickman line was placed. On the first day of Campath they have to monitor his vitals every 30 minutes for 6 hours. The purpose of the Campath is to get rid of the lymphocytes and since Landen's are so low they feel like he will tolerate the Campath very well. This morning we saw the BMT team, the Dietician and the Physical Therapist. Dr. Roehrs mentioned that Landen's hemoglobin is low so that plus the benadryl can make him feel kinda out of it. Landen slept a lot this afternoon. At one point he said his stomach was hurting and a little while later he threw up. He also started running a fever which was expected. It was 100.5 and the hospital's protocol for a fever is anything above 100.4. So as they do with every first fever they did a blood culture on all four of his lines and started an antibiotic. The blood cultures will take 24 hours to come back. Those results will determine whether he can stop the antibiotic or will continue it. Landen had some visitors today! He was very glad to see Nani, Nana, Heather and Lois! Overall, it was a good day and we are so thankful! God is so good!
