Sending more DNA to Scotland.....

A few weeks ago we got a call from Angie in Delaware. She informed us that the research for Landen's type of PD is certainly on going. They recently discovered that each of the known patients with the same type of PD as Landen all share at least one gene change. They actually ran out of Landen's DNA from over a year ago and wanted to know if we could send more. We are more than willing to help in the research so of course we agreed. We waited for the Fed Ex package to arrive with the kit to obtain more DNA. It came and we followed the instructions and remembered most of it from the first time.

Landen can not have anything to eat or drink for 30 minutes prior to taking the sample. But basically all we do is take those blue sticks with the white tips and swab them around the inside of his cheeks several times to gather saliva. Then we cut off the tips and put them in this container.

There is a solution in the top of the lid. Once all the white tips are in the container we screw the lid on which releases the solution with the white tips containing the saliva. We mix it for a few seconds and that's it! We package the container and drop it off at Fed Ex where they will send it to Edinburgh, Scotland in the UK! It is AMAZING what can be discovered through saliva and how long it can be researched! Now we will wait until the next discovery! We are so thankful for our doctors and how they work together across the world!
