Today has been a busy but a good day! The BMT team is very excited about how well Landen is doing. They changed his cyclosporine from IV to oral today. It was very challenging to add a new medicine but he took his first dose this afternoon. This puts us one step closer to discharge! Since the cyclosporine is now oral he got to get his picc line out today since that's all that was being used for. Landen was very scared to get it taken out. He had a very hard time with the tape coming off and he was really worried about the stitches, but once the tape was off we discovered that the stitches had already detatched! What a relief! When it came time for the line to be removed, I was nervous but he did great! He did everything they told him to do and it was a piece of cake! We were so glad to have it out and he was too! Rachel, Negar, and the child life specialist did a great job and made the process a lot easier! The nurse had to apply pressure to the area for five minutes and then he had to lay down and rest for 30 minutes. The rest was needed though because he was worn out! Landen got an IVIG treatment today. This replaces the weekly infusion we were doing at home. Two viruses have been found, one in his blood work and the other from a stool test. Thankfully, he does not have any symptoms of these viruses but he will start a treatment for them tomorrow morning. Despite a little bit of nausea yesterday he did not get sick at all! Today has been the same. Landen has continued to eat well...he's making up for all the time that he didn't eat! The most exciting news we got today is that they hope to discharge us on Thursday! We were thrilled to hear this! He has to add one more oral medicine and they plan to do that tomorrow. We are hopeful, but we are trying not to get our hopes up! Landen felt good today but he is worn out tonight and rightfully so! The most exciting thing that happened today was that Landen got to leave the room! He had to ride in a wheelchair and could only ride the halls on his floor but he loved it and had a blast! It was great!!
